BIO
Tippa Irie is one of the most influential musicians in the history of reggae and dancehall. Emerging in the UK in the 1980s as a leading MC on the legendary Saxon Sound system, he became widely recognized for his rapid-fire delivery, sharp lyrics, and unmistakable voice, helping to define fast-chatting as a cornerstone of UK sound system culture. After releasing his first album 'Is It Really Happening to Me' on Greensleeves Records in 1986, he shot to fame with several #1 hits in the UK and around the world including 'Hello Darling', 'Raggamuffin Girl' and 'Superwoman.' As one of the first reggae artists to land the UK Singles Chart, Tippa Irie broke barriers and brought Jamaican-rooted music firmly into the British mainstream. In 2005, Tippa was nominated for a GRAMMY® for Best Rap Song for a tune he wrote with Will.I.Am of the Black Eyed Peas called 'Hey Mama.'
In 2023 following the release of his much-anticipated 18th career album 'I'm An African', Tippa released his autobiography titled 'Stick To My Roots', named after his 2010 hit single of the same name. His autobiography claimed #1 spots on several Amazon UK bestseller lists and continues to be highly acclaimed.
Known as much for his wit and humor as his lyrical precision, Tippa Irie is a captivating live performer whose shows blend high-energy delivery with crowd engagement and cultural commentary. In 2026, he is looking forward to a tour schedule that will bring him to multiple countries around the world and a full length album release produced in Jamaica by the legendary King Jammys.
